Celebrating CASA
During Kappa Alpha Theta's spring Parent's Weekend on February 4th, the sorority hosted their Second Annual Silent Auction to Celebrate CASA! Held at Live Wire Athens, the Thetas enjoyed the company of roughly 600 members, families and alumnae to raise money for their philanthropy, CASA or Court Appointed Special Advocates. Theta has partnered with CASA for the past twenty-five years as their official philanthropy. CASA works to ensure that children in the foster care system have a qualified and compassionate adult that will serve as an advocate for the child throughout the process.
As the primary supporters for the local Athens-Oconee CASA branch, Kappa Alpha Theta greatly appreciates the ability to be connected and donate to such an amazing organization. The Executive Director of Athens Children First, Susie Weller, attended the event and spoke on behalf of the organization and how Theta's contribution impacts the efforts. All in all, the event was a major success! Generous donations from various families, alumnae, and local vendors provided some amazing items and services to purchase. Some highlights included: a two-day stay in a luxury suite at the Ocean Lodge at St. Simons Island, a YETI cooler, Falcons memorabilia, a reserved parking spot at the Kappa Alpha Theta house, and much more!
Theta received a lot of very encouraging feedback from attendees regarding the event, as well as the enthusiasm surrounding the cause. In their effort to better educate their network of parents and alumnae about their relationship with CASA, they were quite pleased with the results. The Thetas are extremely proud to announce that they raised over $10,000 for Athens-Oconee CASA and are eager to kick off another great year partnered with CASA.
