Exec Spotlight: Alana Hood

What has the Vice President of Public Relations, Alana Hood, been up to this summer? From traveling abroad to landing an internship, Alana has certainly made the most of her time off! During May, Alana studied in Prague with a program that focuses on travel writing. During her time abroad, she also visited Berlin and Budapest and says that “The friendships and memories I made are something I will cherish forever!” However, the highlight of Alana’s summer was spending her twenty-first birthday in Prague with her new friends! They went to a vineyard for dinner and watched fireworks over the Vlatva river, with a view that seemed like a fairy tale.

After returning to the states, Alana spent the remainder of her summer interning with the State of Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency in public affairs. “I loved building connections across our state’s government and learning about the inner workings of PR in the public sector,” she says.

With Panhellenic Recruitment only EIGHT days away, Alana is gearing up to cover the exciting time on all platforms of social media and witness PNMs utilize The Pointer that she compiled! Above all, Alana cannot wait to watch the PNMs start their college careers. She remembers how it was such an exciting time and she is a tad jealous that the PNMs have four year to look forward to. “They’ll have the opportunity to make so many friends during recruitment and truly find a home away from home,” she adds.

As a rising senior at the University of Georgia, Alana certainly offers a valuable piece of advice to PNMs in this week before Panhellenic Recruitment. She explains, “While this time can be fun and exciting, it can also be a roller coaster of emotions. Through it all, just remember that this week does not define your UGA experience. There are roughly 200 weeks in your college career, and you will have so many more memories to make in the other 199. Take advantage of every moment before you miss it!”

When she’s not taking a class in Grady College or spending time in the Greek Life Office, where can you find Alana? Where campus and downtown meet! “I love being near the corner of College Avenue and Broad Street. There are people sitting outside at coffee shops, going on runs, and walking to class. I love the mix of energy and southern charm,” she exclaims.

Be sure to follow UGA Panhellenic on all social media platforms to keep up with Panhellenic Exec, the Gamma Chis and the thousands of PNMs during Recruitment!
