Delta Zeta LOVES Cleveland Road
The girls of Delta Zeta have the privilege of hosting parties for the Cleveland Road Elementary School’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing class every month. Through our Turtle Grant, DZ’s local philanthropy, we plan monthly events where these children can take a break from their studies and have some fun! Past parties have included Valentine’s Day, Winter, St. Patrick’s Day, Back-to-School Bash, Fall Party, and more! Every month Delta Zetas connect with the kids, building friendships throughout the year. We have a special committee that plans and executes the party, overseen by our Philanthropy Chair, Shelby Hunter. She has developed and love and passion for these children and looks forward to the party every month! Our last party was holiday themed, where we made little marshmallow snowmen and each kid decorated their very own Santa hat. Shelby said, “The kids enjoyed getting to be creative and make their hats their own. They had so much fun with the different glitter paints and hanging out with the older girls! Having a local philanthropy where we can actively support the deaf and hard of hearing community is just one reason that I love being a Delta Zeta so much!” This program was started by one of our senior’s Ashly Stigler. Now, Bryanna Cool, a freshman philanthropy assistant, is taking it one step further by creating an after-school buddy program at Cleveland Road and teaching sign language classes to the chapter so that we can better communicate with the kids at Cleveland Road. They have so much fun with us, but little do they know, the impact that the kids have on the Delta Zetas has lasting effects that has launched our members into a passion for great community service that has changed their lives.
