SDT's 'Eat Your Heart Out'

Alli Goldring and Hallie Schuster tell us about their unique philanthropy event this past Spring. They opted to raise funds for a cause that hits close to home for SDT and its members.

"On April 18, Sigma Delta Tau hosted our first “Eat Your Heart Out” Fundraiser. The goal of this event was to raise money for Orange Ribbons for Jaime, a non profit made for Jaime Guttenberg. Jaime was a cousin of one of our members, and one of the 17 victims in the Parkland shooting in February of 2019. Orange Ribbons for Jaime donates money and time to gun safety as well as to organizations that Jaime was passionate about. Jaime was only 14 years old when her life was taken from her by a school shooter. She was always the life of the party, always dancing and the light in every room. The event embodied her, with orange ribbons and balloons (Jamie's favorite color) and string lights hanging throughout the beautifully lit tent on North Campus overlooking the fountain. We danced for her while we ate and laughed and played lawn games.

This event took place to raise money and awareness for Orange Ribbons for Jaime. It occurred from 10:30 PM - 1:30 AM at Herty Field on Thursday, April 18. The goal for this event began at $2,500 raised through Facebook, but was raised to a goal of $5,000 when we raised over $2,000 in the first few days.

We raised a total of $10,569.58 for Orange Ribbons for Jaime.

This number exceeded our initial expectations, and we are so pleased that we were able to make such an impactful contribution to a cause so close to our hearts! We could not think of better news to end an incredible night. All of the Sig Delts want to thank everyone who came. See you next spring!"
