PANHELLENIC'S BACK TO SCHOOL SURVIVAL GUIDE

With classes back into full swing and a campus full of students, Panhellenic is here to give you everything you need to know about back to school this year!

To start off with back to school essentials, now that classes are back in person, we are all doing so much more walking and the UGA hills are brutal, to say the least. Knowing this, it is so important to get a pair of comfy sneakers that will get you through those long walks to and from class. Along the same lines of having tons of walking, a water bottle is a must-have! It is incredibly important to stay hydrated, especially in order to be the best student you can be and carrying a water bottle with you is the perfect way to do so. Hydroflasks are a Panhell favorite but you can find the cutest water bottles absolutely everywhere! On the other hand, studying at the library or walking to class, you’re going to want to grab a pair of headphones to block out noise and listen to your favorite music. I always throw a pair in my bag before I head out of the house each day to make sure I have them with me whenever I’m getting work done or just going for a long walk in between classes.

Looking for somewhere to study? Here are some of our favorite places, both on and off campus! If you find yourself on North Campus, the Main Library is a go-to study spot for all UGA students. Whether you are looking for a social study room with friends or the silence of the upper floors of the library, there is a spot for you. If you are located more towards the middle of UGA’s campus, the Miller Learning Center (aka the MLC) is a great spot to get some study hours in and get caffeinated with Jittery Joes. Speaking of Jittery Joes, there are so many Jittery Joes locations all around Athens and they are all incredible study locations. If you are at Tate, studying by the Starbucks there is always a fan favorite as well. Want to study outside? North Campus is a student-loved spot where you can relax and study. College Square is also located right across from the arch and is always a lovely spot to study with friends or grab a cup of coffee from Starbucks right next to all the shaded tables.

Classes beginning and the work starting to pile up can naturally bring students some stress. But do not fear! We have our top five tips for setting yourself up for success in classes this semester:

  1. Plan ahead! There’s no time better than now to make sure all of your important due dates, presentation dates, interviews, and everything else you don’t want to forget are on your calendar. This will make planning your weeks so much easier when the time comes around, AND you’ll never be stressing out about forgetting that one assignment!

  2. Make friends in your classes and have some study buddies! Having friendly faces in your classes makes school so much more enjoyable and these people can be your support system when classes get tough. Studying in groups is also super effective and so much more fun than studying alone!

  3. Block out your time! Instead of sitting down and hoping to get all your work done with no time frame in mind, set a timer for a certain time and see how much you can get done. So many times we underestimate how much we can get done in a short amount of time!

  4. Take a break! Giving your mind a rest is so important to avoid getting burnt out, which is a feeling we all know too well. Some study break favorites are going for a walk, dropping into a workout class, or grabbing a coffee with friends!

  5. Rest, rest, rest! Sleep is so important to function well during the day and get the most out of your study sessions. Although it may be tempting to pull an all nighter and finish that paper, your sleep is essential!

Although the semester may seem daunting at first, we know that you will do great! Good luck and have an amazing semester, Panhellenic community. We cannot wait to see all you do!
