Gamma Phi Beta-roo

By Gamma Phi Beta international requirements, the UGA chapter hosts one sorority-wide sisterhood event each semester to strengthen their core values of love, labor, learning, and loyalty. Sometimes they choose to go off campus to a venue like Washington Farms, while other semesters they have enjoyed just relaxing and catching up on their front lawn with a little food and music. After a whirlwind weekend of a Brave’s Date Night and spring parties, Gamma Phi Beta hosted a sisterhood event on the first warm Sunday of Spring Semester 2015. They called it Betaroo. The Education Vice President, Ashley Biscan, and her fabulous committee planned a 1960’s music festival-inspired afternoon complete with a bubble machine, burlap hula-hoops, face and body painting, hand painted corn hole boards, and an original Volkswagen van photo booth. The in-house chef, Evan, made delicious pita chips, homemade hummus, chicken kabobs, and veggie snacks. Ben & Jerry’s even made an appearance. Several local bands performed in the middle of their lawn, complete with a crowd favorite when sisters Madi Coleman and Madison Garret debuted their original song. The choices of all the performers reflected the wide styles of Gamma Phi Beta as a whole, including country, Motown, modern pop covers, indie rock, and rock ballads--a true music festival showing. Looking out over the sea of picnic blankets, beach towels, flower crowns, jean shorts, palazzo pants, tie dye, and myriad other cliché pieces, it combined into an unforgettable event that the Gamma Phi Beta sisters at the University of Georgia will not soon forget.
