Singing for Sight
On March 22nd, Delta Gamma hosted their 2nd annual Anchor Jam, benefitting the Delta Gamma Foundation: Service for Sight. The event was again held at the Georgia Theatre, this time with new performers, including UGA’s music fraternity Phi Mu Alpha singing the Star Spangled Banner. Opening was Revel in Romance, an Atlanta-based alternative band who has opened for The Band Perry and have had featured performances at Six Flags Over Georgia and at the 2014 Atlanta New Years Eve Peach Drop. The main event at Anchor Jam featured Casey Derhak, a Nashville-based country artist who has emerging songs on radio and TV, including his 2015 EP “Deep South Sweet Sound.”
The event raised $4,968! The funds from the event went to a branch of Service for Sight, Joining Forces. This organization helps veterans who have become visually impaired while in the military. Anna Wood, Delta Gamma’s Vice President: Foundation, sent paper invitations to Delta Gammas’ family and friends in the military to ensure veterans knew the magnitude that their service had on DG and the UGA body. Anna said, “It was a really unique experience to be able to reach out to veterans in our area. I was honored to have the opportunity to invite the Athens community into our sisterhood, supporting a cause that is close to so many. Even compared to last year’s event, we have had a huge growth in support, and we would love to see this continued support from the UGA body in the future.”
