Georgia on My Mind

Senior Phi Mu Eleanor Traynham had the honor to intern for Governor Nathan Deal this summer, along with other Greek Life members at UGA. Being a political science and public relations double major, she couldn’t have thought of a better opportunity than working for such an impactful and influential leader in Georgia.

She spent her summer in the scheduling office where she did everything from handling the governor’s RSVPs to helping plan state events. Her favorite duty was helping with the photo ops where groups from all over the state came to the capitol in order to meet and have their picture taken with the governor. She said one of the biggest perks of her job was that the governor would pop into her office for his morning coffee and often stay to chat with the staff.

She enjoyed the welcoming and hardworking environment at the capitol. For Eleanor, the interns and staff really made the experience exceptional--the experience would not have been the same without them.

Through her internship, she gained a more in depth insight into the inner workings of Georgia’s government and the responsibilities of the governor and his staff. After this experience, Eleanor knows she wants to pursue a career in politics and will be spending her final semester participating in the UGA in DC program.
