Philanthropy Fun

Spring semester always has special memories from the momentum ANAD, Delta Phi Epsilon's philanthropy, brings! Delta Phi Epsilon’s philanthropy is National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders and in order to build awareness we take an entire week and turn it in to a celebration. We celebrate being women who are confident in being themselves, worthy of being seen as more than their body image and more than able to conquer the obstacles in front of them. The entire week has different events that help raise awareness about eating disorders starting with a body positivity workshop as well as accepting donations and raising funds through a percentage night at Your Pie. Our key event, Greeks N Sync, was in the middle of the week and was an 80’s themed lip sync battle between different sororities. Our judges included Maddie Dill, Sydney Snead, Gracie Cherrey, Rashad Roundtree, and football player, Terry Godwin. The entire night was incredible; the atmosphere was electric and the audience loved seeing their friends sing to some of their favorite songs from the 80’s! On Thursday, we honored survivors with a candlelight vigil. Few people know that every 62 minutes, someone passes from an eating disorder or that eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. We took it as a chance to share stories of those who has struggled in the past and to honor those who were continuing to fight the uphill battle of recovery. We ended the week with an event at Tate. We decorated scales with messages of hope and confidence such as: “you are worth it”, “you are more than a number on scale” and “you are beautiful inside and out” and then smashed them with a hammer to symbolize that the scale wouldn’t define them. The entire week was full of encouraging one another, sharing stories of celebrating authentic beauty, and empowering one another to be the best version of ourselves.
