Kappa Crawfish Boil 2021!

Jenna Monnin, a sophomore in Kappa Kappa Gamma, shares all about their upcoming philanthropy event - Kappa Crawfish Boil!

Springtime brings new life and opportunity, but at Kappa Kappa Gamma, spring brings us crawfish. Every year Kappa Kappa Gamma hosts our annual Kappa Crawfish Boil, and we are so ex

cited to be partnered with two amazing philanthropies. This year Kappa is continuing its partnership with Books For Keeps. This organization is a local non-profit that raises money and helps provide books and other necessary reading materials to low-income families who may not be able to afford them. Reading is such an integral and fundamental part of a child’s development and through this partnership, Kappa hopes to not only make a positive impact on the literacy rates for kids in the Athens community but also help more children find joy in reading. Kappa has also partnered with the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) this year, and we are looking forward to continuing this relationship. The Coronavirus has brought great hardship and isolation for many people, and it is so crucial to recognize the importance of maintaining your mental health. By working with NAMI, Kappa hopes to emphasize our commitment to the health and wellbeing of our members during this time and in the future. Our girls will fundraise for Kappa Crawfish Boil by reaching out to the UGA community, their family, and their friends..

“The Crawfish Man” is coming all the way from Jacksonville, Florida to cater this event. I attended my first crawfish boil last year, and my friends taught me how to eat crawfish for the first time. I absolutely love

d the flavor, and I couldn’t believe I had waited so long to try them! The band Grandville will also be performing live, and I’ve heard they’ve prepared a great performance for us. Vendors will be set up at the event, and they will be selling amazing items. Last year, I got the cutest pair of crescent moon shaped earrings and a lightning bolt necklace to go along with them. Kappa cannot wait to host this event, and we have worked diligently to ensure that it can happen safely by following COVID-19 guidelines. Kappa Crawfish Boil will be on Saturday, March 20th. If you would like to donate to our philanthropies, you can Venmo me @Jenna-Monnin or reach out to any other Kappa you know.
